Model Overview

The Changan Qiyuan Hunter K50 is a mid-size extended-range electric pick-up truck launched under Changan Auto's Qiyuan brand, serving as the pioneering flagship under Changan Pick-up's "12324" global development roadmap. The vehicle made its debut in April 2025 and officially went on sale at the Chengdu Motor Show in August 2025; on 13 June 2026, the updated 2026 model lineup was officially launched with 10 variants. The 2025 model was priced between RM127,900 and RM229,900, while the 2026 model is tagged from RM141,900 to RM178,800. Marketed as the "world's first super extended-range digital intelligent pick-up truck", it highlights its 2.0T Blue Whale range-extender system, rugged ladder-frame chassis, Huawei Smart Cockpit, and three differential locks as core selling points, seamlessly balancing daily urban commuting, worksite hauling, off-road expeditions, and outdoor camping.
Design Language
The Hunter K50 adopts a "Hunting Mecha Aesthetics" design language, combining rugged off-road cues with new-energy tech accents. Up front is a borderless dot-matrix smoked front grille integrated with the Changan Qiyuan emblem, flanked by signature 7-shaped sequential LED daytime running lights with dynamic welcome illumination upon unlocking. The heavy-duty front bumper features a reinforced black manganese steel bash guard with factory-integrated winch mounting points. High-spec variants come equipped with four roof-mounted searchlights (2 high-beam + 2 camping spotlights) capable of 270° rotation, delivering an illumination range of up to 80 metres at night. The profile features pronounced muscular waistlines and comes standard with manganese steel side steps rated for a 200 kg load. At the rear, it sports vertically stacked segmented LED tail lamps and a steel rear step bumper. The exterior is available in eight paint options including red, orange, blue, white, grey, and black, with Olive Green offered as the dedicated off-road hero colour.
Powertrain & Performance
The Hunter K50 is powered by a 2.0T Blue Whale range-extender system, featuring an internal combustion generator rated at 140 kW (190 PS) and 340 Nm of torque. It is offered in rear-wheel drive (RWD) and all-wheel drive (4WD) configurations: the RWD variant uses a single electric motor producing 130 kW (approx. 177 PS) and 320 Nm; the 4WD variant employs front and rear permanent magnet synchronous motors, delivering a total combined output of 240 kW (approx. 326 PS) and 529 Nm of peak torque on the 2026 model. The front motor on the 2026 4WD version has been uprated to 110 kW. The official 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 5.9 seconds, with a top speed of 160 km/h.
In terms of battery capacity, the 2025 model is fitted with a 31.18 kWh Gotion High-tech lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery pack, while the 2026 model upgrades to a 43.47 kWh CATL ternary lithium battery pack. Depending on the trim, the pure electric range on the NEDC cycle is rated at 131 km, 181 km, and 192 km, with a combined CLTC range of up to 1,060 km. DC fast charging supports a 2C charge rate, juicing the battery from 30% to 80% in just 16 minutes. All variants come standard with a 30 kW vehicle-to-load (V2L) external discharge capability (supporting both 220V and 380V outputs), along with a 3.3 kW domestic power supply.
Chassis & Handling
The Hunter K50 is built on a robust body-on-frame (ladder-frame) chassis. The front suspension utilises a double-wishbone independent setup, while the rear suspension is offered in either progressive leaf spring or multi-link configurations. 4WD models feature a centre differential lock, while top-spec variants boast triple differential locks (front, rear, and centre) complemented by an electronic limited-slip differential. It offers an unladen ground clearance of 225 mm, an approach angle of 29°, a departure angle of 26°/27°, and a maximum water-wading depth of 600 mm. The drive mode selector includes 10 terrain modes such as Mountain, Mud, Snow, Sand, Wading, and Crawl; it also supports Tank Turn and a 2.5-tonne towing capacity.
Cabin & Equipment
The interior features a practical 4-door, 5-seater double-cab layout. The dashboard houses a dual-widescreen cockpit setup consisting of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 12.3-inch central touchscreen, running on the Huawei Smart Cockpit operating system. Mid-to-high-spec variants come equipped with a 40W Qi wireless smartphone charger, remote telematics, OTA updates, a built-in 360° dashcam, and a 540° panoramic surround-view camera; top-tier models add power-adjustable and heated front seats. For cargo utility, the standard bed measures 1,600 × 1,595 × 500 mm, while the long-bed version measures 1,850 × 1,595 × 500 mm, offering a maximum payload capacity of 495 kg. The cabin incorporates 32 storage compartments throughout, finished in a dual-tone black-over-brown interior theme.
Safety & Driver Assistance
On the safety front, the Hunter K50 comes standard with dual front airbags, while higher grades add front side airbags and full-length side curtain airbags. Standard features include a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and dual rear parking sensors. Mid-to-high variants are equipped with active driver aids such as Cruise Control, Full-Speed Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), and Lane Departure Warning (LDW). Selected 2025 trims feature a reverse camera, Crawl Control, as well as dedicated Off-road and Snow driving modes. Structurally, the vehicle is built on a rigid integrated frame and comes fitted with standard front recovery hooks and a rear tow hitch.
Market Positioning & Verdict
Backed by standout credentials such as a 5.9-second century sprint, 240 kW dual motors, an electric range of up to 192 km, and a 30 kW V2L output, the Hunter K50 delivers strong product differentiation in the emerging electrified pick-up market. Its output outperforms rivals such as the Radar RD6 (200 kW / 6.5s) and the Ford Ranger PHEV (210 kW / 7.2s), with its 180 km+ pure electric range standing out in its class. Crucially, a massive wheel-end torque of 6,260 Nm provides low-speed crawling and laden recovery capabilities that easily outmuscle traditional combustion engines. Automotive reviews highlight its exceptionally low running costs and high-capacity V2L system as key strengths, making it well-suited for dual-purpose commercial and lifestyle buyers; however, rear-seat legroom and ride suppleness remain minor compromises. As Changan Qiyuan's inaugural digital-intelligent REEV pick-up, the Hunter K50 successfully carves out a versatile identity that balances work, family, and rugged adventure.
